What's New?

There's always something new in the world of taxes.

  • Tax preparers are increasingly being mandated to electronically file returns. Odds are that your return has been or will be e-filed this year.

  • E-filing offers the benefit of faster refunds and more accurate processing by the taxing bodies.

  • While e-filing can offer direct deposits of refunds, it's not mandatory for those that don't feel comfortable with the process. You may still request a refund check. However, if you would like a direct deposit, please be sure to provide us with your financial institution's routing number and your account number. Deposits may be made into a checking or savings account.

  • We must have your signed e-file declaration back via U.S. Mail, fax (318-323-2188), or scanned and e-mailed to efile@monroecpas.com before we can transmit your return.

  • Also continued this year is the Louisiana credit for the special insurance assessments that began shortly after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Check your homeowners or rental dwelling policies. We are required to have a copy of the declaration page to claim the credit.

  • That credit also applies to commercial buildings, whether rented or used in your business.

  • For 2008 returns, Louisiana will offer a credit for simply maintaining homeowners insurance. Keep track of those policies!

  • Effective January 1, 2009, new privacy regulations require we have your written consent before providing a third party with any part of your tax return data or returns. This includes your bank or mortgage company. You may download a consent form HERE. You may return via U.S. Mail or fax (318-323-2188).
